Why use synthetic oil?

A synthetic lubricant contains more highly refined base oils than those used in conventional mineral oils, offering you additional engine protection and engine performance.

To understand synthetic oils, let's look at the origins of engine oil. There are three basic types of lubricants available:

  • Conventional mineral oils, which are the traditional types
  • Synthetic blends, which are a blend of conventional and synthetic types
  • Full synthetic lubricants, which engine manufacturers are increasingly recommending

All types are made from crude oil that comes from the ground. The difference? Synthetic oil is made from more advanced refining processes and is higher in purity and quality than conventional mineral oils. The refining processes not only remove more impurities from the crude oil but also enable individual molecules in the oil to be tailored to the demands of modern engines. These customized molecules provide higher levels of protection and performance.

Synthetic lubricant performance is typically more robust, especially in terms of low-temperature pumpability and high-temperature stability, as well as providing protection against deposits.
